Strengthening Picker’s Experience-Based Co-Design offering for 2026 and beyond

Experience-Based Co-Design (EBCD) has long been one of the most powerful ways to bring patients, families, and staff together to improve care. It enables people to share their experiences, understand what matters most, and work in partnership to redesign services. As the originators of person centred care, we have seen first-hand how EBCD strengthens compassion, builds trust, and delivers meaningful change across teams, pathways, and whole systems.

In 2026, Picker will expand and modernise EBCD as a flagship programme within the Picker Experience of Care Institute. This development builds on our strategy to scale evidence-based learning and development, and to equip partners with the skills and confidence to realise person centred excellence at every level of their organisation. The enhanced programme will offer updated resources, stronger support for facilitators, and new digital and international access models, ensuring EBCD remains accessible, rigorous, and relevant for the opportunities and challenges health and care systems face.

Most importantly, this investment will help more professionals work in genuine partnership with patients and families. It will enable teams to listen deeply, understand lived experiences, and translate those insights into safer, more equitable, and more compassionate care.

We are grateful to the Point of Care Foundation for their legacy grant, which will accelerate and amplify this work. Their support ensures that the learning built over many years will continue to grow, reaching new audiences and enabling EBCD to have even greater impact. Together, we can bring the benefits of experience-based improvement to more people and help organisations deliver the highest quality person centred care for all, always.

Picker’s team of researchers and data scientists are available to support organisations in understanding, measuring, and using workforce and user experience. For queries about our services or to request a call, please contact info@pickereurope.ac.uk.
