Picker’s response to the Renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England

Commenting on the Women’s Health Strategy, Jenny King, Chief Research Officer at Picker, said:

“It is welcome to see this strategy focus on listening to and hearing women as we know, from the national patient experience surveys that we deliver, that women often report poorer experiences of care.

“The strategy’s commitment to establishing a women’s voices partnership is a positive step in the right direction, seeking to co-produce policy to deliver person centred care.

“Patient Power Payments were first mentioned in last year’s Ten Year Plan, and so the pilot announced in this strategy, provides an opportunity to understand how the government proposes these could work in practice. We have long advocated for person centred care and welcome a renewed commitment to empowering patients, but there is a risk of unintended consequences, and any measure would need to be high quality and defensible.”
