The Community Mental Health Survey 2023, conducted by Picker for the Care Quality Commission, gathered feedback from over 14,700 individuals accessing mental health services. It revealed concerns about access and quality of care, echoing broader dissatisfaction with NHS and social care. For the first time, 16-17-year-olds were included, and users of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) were identified. The survey highlighted the importance of understanding the quality of person-centred care, particularly regarding access to treatment and waiting times. It found that delays in receiving mental health support can worsen conditions, with 40% of respondents overall and 61% of CAMHS users feeling that waiting times were too long. Longer waits correlated with deteriorating mental health, with 70% reporting worsening conditions after waiting over six months compared to 27% waiting less than two weeks.
