Why this course matters

Improving isn’t just about big changes, it’s about making small, smart adjustments based on real data. This short course gives you the tools to start making a difference and will help you:

  • Understand the difference between normal variation and real issues in processes
  • Choose the right outcome, process, and balancing measures to track improvement
  • Use data effectively to guide decisions and assess impact

What the course covers

  • Why and how we measure to improve health and social care
  • How to define what you are measuring – we’ll look at some design considerations, including sampling and question wording
  • Thematic analysis of free text data and using statistical process control for analysing data over time, showing how we can use all data to make improvements
  • We’ll provide a template for some common statistical process control charts

Who should attend?

  • This course is ideal for anyone whose role relates to health and social care improvement or patient experience
  • No prior experience needed, just curiosity about how we can use data to improve outcomes, and a desire to make care better.
